Clark Atlanta Falls to Benedict 81-52

The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers fell to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East Division leaders Benedict 81-52 Monday.

The Lady Panthers (7-16, 5-9 SIAC) were outrebounded by Benedict (21-3, 12-2 SIAC) 49-31, turned the ball over 21 times, and were 1-of-13 on 3-point shots.

All five of Benedict's field goals in the first quarter were 3-pointers as they built a 19-11 lead after the first period.   They went on a 14-4 run over the next six minutes to build an 18-point lead after Mahogany Randall's jumper made it 33-15 with 4:21 left before halftime.  Reyana Miller hit a layup and added two free throws as the Lady Panthers cut the lead to 12 at 35-23 at halftime.

Clark Atlanta only hit one basket over the first six minutes of the third quarter as Benedict used a 10-3 run during that time span to get the lead up to 18 points – 45-26 - on Ay'Anna Bey's 3-pointer with 4:14 left in the quarter.  The Tigers got the lead up to 26 by the end of the quarter to seize control of the game.

Miller led Clark Atlanta with 16 points, while grabbing five rebounds and making two assists. Autum Morings had 14 points and six rebounds, along with four blocks. Naomi Holloway added eight points, while Lakashia Hill finished with seven.

Benedict was led by Amaya Ashby who had 17 points and hit five 3-pointers.  Wykira Johnson-Kelly had 15 points while Bey had 13 points and ten rebounds.

Clark Atlanta is off until next Monday, Feb. 17 when they host Albany State at 6 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.  It's the final home game of the season and will be Senior Night as seniors Miller, Jalisa Jones, Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell, Jazmin Smith and Briana McGee will all be playing their final home game.
