After leading most of the first half and late into the fourth quarter, Clark Atlanta wasn't able to hold off Albany State, falling 64-55 Monday at L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
On Senior Night, the Lady Panthers (7-17, 5-10 SIAC) were up 53-51 after
Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell's layup with 4:16 remaining. But the Lady Panthers couldn't hit another basket the rest of the game. Two Mitchell free throws with 14 seconds left ended a 10-0 run by Albany State (5-18, 3-12 SIAC). It was enough for ASU to manage their second win over the Lady Panthers this season.
It overshadowed a first half in which Clark Atlanta led by 11 after a
Jalisa Jones free throw made it 21-10 going into second quarter. The Lady Panthers held onto the lead, but the Albany State had cut into the deficit during the second quarter, pulling to two at 29-27 after ASU's Ciera Norman hit a jumper with 22 seconds left before halftime.
CAU went into the half leading 30-27, but saw ASU flip the score, going up by eight after an Alexandria James basket made it 38-30 with 4:47 left in the third quarter. CAU pulled back into, outscoring ASU 19-8 to lead 49-46 after
Reyana Miller's layup with 7:49 remaining. The game stayed close until CAU's late scoring drought.
Mitchell led CAU with 17 points while grabbing nine rebounds. Miller had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Naomi Holloway had nine points, six rebounds and five assists, while Jones finished with nine points, five rebounds and two assists.
Alexandria James and Ciera Norman both had 23 points for Albany State. James hit 12-of-14 free throws while Norman was 10-of-18 from the floor.
The Lady Panthers close out the regular season with two games on the road. They play at Savannah State at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20 and then at Fort Valley State at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
