Late CAU Run Gives Lady Panthers a 61-60 Win Over Kentucky State

Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell's free throw with four seconds remaining capped a late Clark Atlanta run that gave them a 61-60 win over Kentucky State Monday in Frankfort, Ky.

It's the second consecutive win for Clark Atlanta (5-10, 4-3 SIAC) and their second in the last three games against Kentucky State (4-9, 1-5 SIAC).  It's the sixth straight loss for the Thorobreds. 

The win also means the Lady Panthers are in second place in the SIAC East Division, just two games behind first place Benedict.

Monday, the Lady Panthers trailed by 11 points when KSU's Deja Antoine hit a layup that made it 57-46 with 8:39 remaining in the game.

Naomi Holloway then hit a layup, two free throws and a 3-pointer that pulled them to within five at 58-53 with 6:51 left.   The Lady Panther run continued as Briana McGee hit a 3-pointer and Mitchell followed with two free throws to tie the game at 58-58 with 4:14 left.

After Kentucky State knocked down a free throw to take a one-point lead, senior Reyana Miller hit a jumper with just under three minutes remaining to put CAU up 60-59.  The Lady Panthers then won the free throw battle at the end as Mitchell's free throw with four seconds left gave CAU the win.

Miller finished with 13 points, a season-high ten assists, four steals, three rebounds and two blocks for the Lady Panthers.  Holloway also had 13 points, along with four rebounds and an assist.  Mitchell finished with seven points, four rebounds and two steals, while Lakashia Hill and Maegan Barkley each had six points.  Hill also pulled down five rebounds and had a steal, while Barkley had a rebound and a steal.  Courtney Hall pulled down a team-high eight rebounds along with scoring five points and a blocked shot.  Every Lady Panther scored Monday night.

Kentucky State was led by Deja Antoine who had 14 points with Carnethia Brown adding 13 points.

The Lady Panthers return to Atlanta Saturday, Jan. 11 when they host Fort Valley State at 2 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
