Clark Atlanta Falls in Overtime to Fort Valley State 76-68

The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers erased a second-half, double-digit deficit, but fell in overtime to Fort Valley State 76-68 Saturday at L.S. Epps Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers (5-11, 4-4 SIAC) saw their short two-game win streak end to a Fort Valley State (7-8, 4-3 SIAC) team that won their second game in a row.

Saturday, Clark Atlanta trailed most of the day to the Wildcats.  They trailed by ten points after FVSU's Torri Myers hit a layup that made it 33-23 with 8:14 left in the third quarter.  The Lady Panthers cut it to five after Jalisa Jones connected on two free throws to make it 43-38 seven minutes later.

The lead was still five points after Myers hit another basket with 2:13 remaining in regulation to make it 61-56.  That's when Clark Atlanta made their run.

Lakashia Hill and Naomi Holloway combined for three free throws in the next 30 seconds to pull CAU within two.  Jones then hit two more free throws to tie the game at 61-61 with 1:03 left.  Alicia Franklin countered with a jumper to put FVSU up by a basket with 47 seconds left.

Fort Valley State missed two free throws with 27 seconds left and then Reagan Jackson hit two free throws to tie the game again at 63-63.  Fort Valley State missed a shot with two seconds left as the game then went into overtime.

But in the overtime, Fort Valley State outscored CAU 13-5 to get the win.

Holloway led Clark Atlanta with 16 points, along with four rebounds, five assists and two steals.  Autum Morings had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Reyana Miller added 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal.  Jones finished with eight points. Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell had five points and five rebounds, while Hill also added five rebounds and four points.  Reagan Jackson added six points.

Alicia Franklin led Fort Valley State with 16 points, while Nola Carter had 15 points.

The Lady Panthers are off until Monday, Jan. 20th – the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday – when they host Savannah State at 6 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
