Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell led four players in double figures as the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers defeated Central State 77-70 in Wilberforce, Ohio Saturday.
The Lady Panthers (4-10, 3-3 SIAC) had trailed Central State (4-10, 2-4 SIAC) by as many as 11 points in the first half after the Marauders' Sandra Guilford hit two free throws with just under three minutes remaining before halftime, making the score 36-25. But the Lady Panthers were able to outscore CSU 13-7 over those last three minutes to close the gap to five points at halftime, 43-38.
The Central State lead was still at five until the Lady Panthers erased that third quarter deficit by outscoring Central State (4-10, 2-4 SIAC) 21-4 over the last nine minutes of the third quarter.
Naomi Holloway had 10 points during that run.
Clark Atlanta never trailed again as they led by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter as they seized control. The win ended Central State's two-game win streak.
Mitchell led the Lady Panthers with 15 points while grabbing five rebounds and making three assists.
Reyana Miller had 14 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists, while Holloway finished with 13 points, as did
Jalisa Jones.
Lakashia Hill had a team-high eight rebounds along with seven points.
Courtney Hall added eight points for CAU.
Shania Kelly led Central State with 19 points, hitting 6-of-8 field goals for the Marauders. Takyra Gilbert added 15.
The Lady Panthers finish up their West Division road trip Monday when they visit Kentucky State at 5:30 p.m. They return to L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they host Fort Valley State at 2 p.m.
