The quest of an undefeated Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season for the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers tennis team isn't over after all.
Just three days after the Lady Panthers defeated Tuskegee in two matches in what looked to be the final regular season match for the CAU tennis team, the Lady Panthers and Fort Valley State University have agreed to play a match that hadn't been played earlier this season on Wednesday, April 10 at CAU Tennis Courts at 4 p.m.
Rain has forced a number of changes in the Lady Panthers' schedule this season. CAU defeated Fort Valley State 4-0 during the SIAC Crossover in Mobile, Ala., in late March, but were unable to re-schedule a second game against FVSU.
The Lady Panthers regular season almost ended Sunday when they defeated Tuskegee 4-3 and 4-1 on Senior Day. Sisters Vivian and
Keyvona Moultrie were honored as this is their final year as Lady Panthers.
In the first match,
Akilah Parker had a big day, winning her singles match 6-0, 6-0 and then teaming with doubles partner
Alexis Fletcher to win their match 6-1.
Vanessa Eusebio won her singles match 6-3, 6-1, while
Keyvona Moultrie also won in singles, 6-4, 6-3.
Saran Lloyd battled Tuskegee's Jaiere Harlow hard in a tough, thee-set match, coming up just short 5-7, 6-3, 4-6.
Vivian Moultrie and
Nicola Ramdyhan also fought hard in singles losses to Tuskegee.
The second match saw Parker take a 6-0, 6-0 singles match and again team with Fletcher to win in doubles 6-1. Eusebio and
Keyvona Moultrie also won again in singles.
Vivian Moultrie lost to Tuskegee's Monica Thomas 6-3, 6-0 as the Golden Tigers got their only win of the match.
The two wins left CAU with a perfect 9-0 record in the SIAC, 13-3 overall.
Wednesday's matches against Fort Valley State now serve as the official end of the regular season for the Lady Panthers. They then will focus on the SIAC Championships that begin on Monday, April 15 at Peachtree City Tennis Center in Peachtree City, Ga., just south of Atlanta.
