The single game with Georgia College comes after the Panthers took one of three games in a hard-fought four-game series at Benedict Sunday and Monday. The final game of the series was called because of rain on Monday.
In Game 1,
Demoni Brantley drove in three runs on two hits, but a late CAU comeback came up short with the Panthers losing 8-5. The Panthers were down 8-1 heading into the sixth when Brantley singled, driving in
Ayrton Gijsbertha and
Antonio Watts. Oliver then scored on
Ceontae Brandon's sacrifice bunt. In the seventh,
Jordan Johnson scored on a passed ball for the final run for the Panthers.
In Game 2, Johnson's sacrifice fly drove in
Jason Howell in the first as CAU took an early lead. Benedict countered with runs in the first, second, third and fourth innings to take a 6-1 lead.
But the Panthers roared back. In the fifth, Oliver walked, advanced on a ground out, stole third and then home to pull CAU to within four at 6-2. Then in the sixth, Gjisbertha, Deandre Swift, and Oliver worked walks to load the bases. Oliver and Swift then scored on a error by Benedict's catcher to get within one, at 6-5. Brandon then doubled to left field, scoring
Bradley and tying the game.
It then took seven more innings for either team to score, though four times before the 13
th the Panthers had a runner at third before game-clinching rallies ended.
In the 13
th inning, Brantley and Oliver both scored when
McKaleb Harlemon reached on a error by Benedict's first baseman. Johnson then held Benedict scoreless in the bottom of the inning to pick up the save.
Cedeon Langguth earned the win.
In Game 3, Johnson had three hits and drove in three runs, two on a 2-run homer, as CAU fell to Benedict 19-11. While the Panthers scored in five of seven innings and had nine hits, Benedict had a 7-run third inning and a 5-run fifth that lifted them to the win.
Calvin Butler and Bradley each added home runs, while Watts went 2-for-4 on the day.
Anthony Nettles had three steals and scored three times.
The fourth game was called because of rain.
The Panthers will return home to Bill Evans Field in College Park, Ga., when they host Claflin University in a three-game series Saturday, April 13
th and Sunday, April 14
th. The Panthers play a single game against Claflin at 4 p.m. on Saturday and then a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
