Shelvick Henry, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's second-leading scorer, had 21 points, but Clark Atlanta couldn't hold off Albany State as the Panthers fell to ASU 63-51 Monday in Albany, Ga.
In a battle for second place in the SIAC East Division, the Panthers (11-10, 8-6 SIAC) now fall a game behind Albany State (10-14, 9-5 SIAC) and three games behind East leader Morehouse (17-3, 11-3 SIAC) with three regular-season conference games remaining. Â The Panthers had won seven of their last night games before Monday's loss.
Monday, the Panthers led most of the first part of the first half, the last time on
Jalen Mitchell's jumper that made it 37-36 with 13:34 before the break.   Henry hit a 3-pointer that again kept CAU close at 41-40, but Albany State went on a 9-0 run over the next three-and-a-half minutes. ASU ten extended their lead to 12 at halftime.
But Randy McClure's 14 second-half points helped Albany State pull away and get the win.
Henry, who is averaging 17.5 points per game, led CAU with 21, along with three rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist.Â
Romaine Thomas added eight points and ten rebounds, along with a block and two assists. Jalen Myrie, in his second game for the Panthers, also had eight points, while Mitchell and
Ian Roach each added seven points.
McClure led Albany State with 20 points.
The Panthers now take on Atlanta University Center rival Morehouse College on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. in Morehouse's Franklin Forbes Arena.
