Lady Panthers Fall Late at Fort Valley, 62-56

Reagan Jackson had 24 points, including two late to make things close, but the Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers fell late to Fort Valley State University 62-56 Saturday.

The Lady Panthers (6-16, 4-8 SIAC) saw their four-game win streak come to end with the loss.  They also fall to fourth in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East Division race, just a game behind Fort Valley (5-16, 5-8 SIAC).

Just two weeks after Clark Atlanta defeated Fort Valley by 16 points in Atlanta, the Lady Panthers fell behind early, but only by four points after Reyana Miller's 3-pointer made the score 13-9 at the end of the first quarter.

But midway through the second quarter, the Lady Wildcats built a double-figure lead that got to be as many as 15 points.  Jackson hit a 3-pointer four seconds before halftime that pulled CAU to within ten at 34-24.

Two 3-pointers by Jackson and one by Miller pulled Clark Atlanta to within three, three times during the third quarter.  But a 9-1 run to start the fourth quarter put FVSU ahead by 13 points – 55-42 – with 4:30 remaining.

The Lady Panthers had one final push, going on their own 12-3 run over the next three minutes, capped by Jackson's two free throws to make it 58-54 with 1:43 remaining.  But CAU had a turnover and missed their next three shots as Fort Valley pulled away for the win.

Jackson finished with 24 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals for Clark Atlanta, while Miller added 17 points, three steals, two assists and two rebounds.  Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell had 13 rebounds for CAU, while I'Nayah Moore had 11 boards.

Nola Carter led four Lady Wildcats in double figures with 12 points while also grabbing 16 rebounds.

The Lady Panthers are back in action Monday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. when they visit Albany State.  Albany State (6-15, 5-6 SIAC) are in second place in the SIAC East Division, two-and-a-half games ahead of CAU.
