Clark Atlanta was in for a battle early as Fort Valley State (6-18, 5-8 SIAC) kept things close in the first half.  FVSU's K'Viontae Williams hit a 3-pointer and then a free throw that put the Wildcats up 20-19 midway through the half.   His dunk with 32 seconds before the break extended that lead to 31-24.

They maintained that lead early in the second half until Mitchell hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 38-38.   The game remained close when Thomas Hardy put FVSU up 51-49 with 9:19 left.  But that would be Fort Valley's last lead of the afternoon.

Ian Roach had two 3-pointers during a 10-0 CAU run that put the Panthers up 61-51 with 5:54 left. Fort Valley sliced that lead to a minute-and-a-half later, but the Panthers finished on a 10-5 run to close out the game.
