Three Lady Panthers scored in double figures, but Benedict seized control late in the second quarter in defeating Clark Atlanta 89-55 Saturday.
Clark Atlanta fell to 6-19, 4-10 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while Benedict closed out their regular season undefeated in conference play at 15-0. The Lady Tigers are 20-5 overall.
Early on, the Lady Panthers gave Benedict all they could handle.
Clark Atlanta jumped out to a 7-point lead early after
Jalisa Jones' 3-pointer made it 11-4 midway through the first quarter. Benedict then went on an 11-0 run over a six minute span to end the quarter and take a 15-11 lead.
The Lady Panthers kept things close early in the second quarter, pulling to within four after
Reyana Miller's layup made 19-15.  The lead stayed in single digits a little more than four minutes before halftime after Brianna McGee's jumper made it 29-21. But Benedict went on a 16-2 run to close out the half and take control of the game.
Miller finished with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists for CAU, while
Reagan Jackson also had 13 points, along with eight rebounds and an assist.Â
Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell had 11 points and seven rebounds, while I'Nayah Moore, who was honored right after the game during Senior Day ceremonies, finished with seven points and eight rebounds.
Benedict was led by Ay'Anna Bey, the SIAC's leading scorer, who had 44 points and 17 rebounds.
The Lady Panthers close out the home and regular season on Monday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. when they host Paine College at L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
