Reagan Jackson’s 25 Leads Clark Atlanta Over Paine 75-66

Reagan Jackson had 25 points to lead Clark Atlanta to a 75-66 win over Paine College to close out the home and regular season Monday night at L.S. Epps Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers (7-19, 5-10 SIAC) now set their sights on the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in Birmingham, Ala., next week where CAU are the defending champions.  Paine finishes the regular season 3-20, 2-12 in conference play.

Paine actually led the entire first quarter, ending the period with a 17-14 lead.  But with just over seven minutes left before halftime, Jackson hit a 3-pointer that gave CAU their first lead at 19-17.  Over the next two minutes, Jackson and Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell each had five points to give the Lady Panthers some breathing room with a six-point lead.

But the Lady Lions roared back, tying the game twice within the half's final two minutes.
Senior I'Nayah Moore, playing her final home game in a CAU uniform, hit a free throw just before halftime to give the Lady Panthers a 36-35 lead at the break.

Paine retook the lead early in the third quarter, holding on to it just before the quarter ended when Jackson hit another 3-pointer that gave CAU a 49-48 lead. The two teams see-sawed the lead before CAU jumped ahead by three on Mitchell's layup as the quarter ended.

Paine tied the game early in the fourth, but the Lady Panthers pulled away one last time by outscoring Paine 13-2 during a four-minute stretch midway through the quarter.  Jackson's free throws with 5:59 remaining gave CAU a 71-60 lead and control of the game.

Jackson, the Lady Panthers' leading scorer, finished with 25 points, her tenth consecutive game scoring in double figures. She also had five rebounds, five steals and two assists.  Mitchell had 19 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.  Reyana Miller had 14 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.  Moore had three points, eight rebounds and a steal.

Keondra Archie led Paine with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Clark Atlanta finished the regular season third in the SIAC East Division, just behind Albany State and regular season champs Benedict.

Next up is the SIAC Tourney that begins Monday.  Seedings will be announced by the conference this week.
