Clark Atlanta Falls at Miles 78-64

Clark Atlanta rallied from a double-digit deficit, but couldn't hold off Miles, losing 78-64 on the road Thursday.

The Lady Panthers (6-18) were behind by ten – 21-11 – late in the first quarter after Amoni Walker hit a free throw for Miles (15-8). But CAU fought back, going on a 12-2 run over the next nine minutes to tie the game at 23-all after Nailah-Mawusi Mitchell's 3-pointer 7:44 before halftime.  Miles managed to inch out to a five-point lead at the half.

They extended that lead again to ten points after Raiana Johnson's free throw with 7:10 left in the third quarter made it 46-36.    Miles maintained that 10-point lead most of the way through the quarter, but the Lady Panthers had another run left in them.

They cut the lead to three before the quarter ended, and then pulled to within one when Reagan Jackson's layup made it 55-54 early in the final period.   Mitchell then followed with another 3-pointer that gave the Lady Panthers the lead at 57-55 with 9:27 remaining.

But a 19-1 Miles run over the next seven minutes put the game away for the Lady Bears.
Mitchell led CAU with 23 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a steal.   Jackson finished with 15 points, two rebounds and an assist.  Jackson reached double-digits in scoring for the eighth consecutive game.

Reyana Miller had ten points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. I'Nayah Moore grabbed six rebounds and had four points.

Sakina Wynn had a huge game for Miles with 32 points while Johnson added 17 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lady Panthers now gear up for a matchup with the SIAC East Division champs Benedict College (19-5, 14-0 SIAC) on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium. They end the regular season at home Monday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. against Paine College (3-20, 2-12 SIAC).

CAU is locked in a battle with Fort Valley State for the third spot – and the third seed from the East in the upcoming SIAC Tournament – in the East Division standings. Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, fourth-place CAU has two conference games remaining while third-place FVSU has one SIAC game left.
