Clark Atlanta charged back from a fourth-quarter, double-digit deficit, but their comeback fell short as the Lady Panthers fell to Miles 62-58 Thursday at L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
After a close battle throughout the first half, the Lady Panthers (3-9, 2-2 SIAC) trailed by 15 points early in the fourth quarter after Raiana Johnson's layup gave Miles (6-3, 2-1 SIAC) a 54-39 lead.
Four minutes later, CAU was able to shave that lead to six after
Lakashia Hill grabbed a rebound and was fouled, hitting two free throws to make it 56-50 with 4:12 remaining.
CAU eventually pulled to within two points after
Reagan Jackson hit two free throws with just under a minute remaining made it 60-58.
Jalisa Jones hit five free throws during that three-minute stretch to help the Lady Panthers come within a basket.
Jackson missed a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left that would have given CAU the lead late. Miles' Mya Millner hit two free throws late that sealed the win for the Golden Bears.
Jones led CAU with 13 points. Jones hit hit six-of-ten free throws, grabbed five rebounds, made two steals and had an assist. Jackson and
Reyana Miller both finished with 11 points, while Hill had ten points and nine rebounds.
Autum Morings added nine points and 11 rebounds.
Miles was led by Millner's 18 points.
The Lady Panthers are back on the court Saturday when they host SIAC West foe LeMoyne-Owen College at 2 p.m. at L.S. Epps Gymnasium. Admission is free.
