Seniors Taylor Prude and Ashley Elmore combined for 26 kills as Clark Atlanta snapped an eight-match losing streak in defeating Paine College 3-1 in Augusta, Ga., Saturday.

The Lady Panthers (5-15, 4-12 SIAC) had not won since defeating Fort Valley State 3-2 on the road on Oct. 8.   Their losing streak began against Paine (13-12, 8-8 SIAC) just three days later.

Saturday, CAU led 20-11 late in the first set after an ace by Lauryn Terry. But Paine scored 12 of the next 14 points to take the lead at 23-22.   That would be their last lead as CAU scored the last three points to win the set 25-23.

In the second set, CAU again led late, 21-14.  Paine made another comeback, scoring five straight points to pull within two at 21-19. CAU was able to maintain that lead to win the set 25-22 after an ace by Elmore.

CAU was close to closing out the match in the third set, leading 21-19 after a Kia Thomas kill.  But six straight Paine points gave them a 25-21 win in the set.

In the fourth set, Clark Atlanta led by as many as 12 points in winning the final set 25-18 and the match.

Elmore finished with 13 kills, eight digs and three aces for CAU. Fellow senior Prude also had 13 kills and five digs, while Thomas finished with ten kills, an ace and a dig. Terry had six kills and eight digs while TiAna Crider had 20 digs.

Shavonne Boggs led Paine with nine kills.

The Lady Panthers close out the 2019 season Tuesday when they visit Savannah State.
