Clark Atlanta battled for three sets Friday but fell 3-0 to Benedict Friday in Columbia, S.C.
The Lady Panthers (4-15, 3-13 SIAC) trailed by four in the first set until running off five straight points, capped by a
Taylor Prude kill, to go up 22-21. Prude tied the set a few minutes later with another kill that made it 25-25. But Benedict scored the final two points to win the set 27-25.
In the second set, Benedict led by as many as 13 points and CAU wasn't able to catch up, losing the second set 25-17.
Clark Atlanta fell behind early in the third set, but battled back to grab a 12-10 lead after an
Ashley Elmore kill. They extended the lead to five after a
Kia Thomas kill made it 19-14, but Benedict had a 6-0 run that put them ahead late at 20-19.
The two teams were tied most of the rest of the way, the final time after a Thomas kill made it 25-25. But Benedict scored the final two points to win the set and the match.
Lauryn Terry led the Lady Panthers with 11 kills, seven digs and three aces. Thomas finished with nine kills, two digs and an ace, while Prude had six kills, three aces and five digs. Elmore had six kills and six digs and
Justice Taylor had four kills and a block.
Chara Robbins had 33 assists and
TiAna Crider had nine digs.
V'Aira Harris led Benedict with ten kills, three aces, three blocks and ten digs.
The Lady Panthers head to Paine on Saturday before closing the season at Savannah State on Tuesday.
