Clark Atlanta struggled on offense for the second straight game, losing to Auburn University-Montgomery Saturday 78-48 in the Gulf South Conference/Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Challenge in Montevallo, Ala.
The Lady Panthers (0-2) hit only 30 percent of their shots Saturday, one day after shooting 29 percent in their loss to Montevallo. AUM (2-0) hit 51.7 percent of their shots.
CAU only hit three field goals in the first quarter, going nearly three minutes without hitting a shot from the floor in falling behind 14-7 seven minutes into the game. They didn't score a basket over the last 4:31 minutes of the quarter while AUM grabbed a 20-10 lead.
CAU twice cut that advantage to five points in the second quarter, first on a
Reyana Miller jumper with 8:07 left in the half making it 22-17 and again two minutes later to make it 24-19.
But that was as close as CAU would get.
After leading 33-25 at halftime, AUM grew their lead to 53-23 after a Victoria Morales layup late in the third quarter. It was a lead they would maintain in taking the win.
While AUM hit 11 3-pointers, Clark Atlanta struggled behind the arc, going 1-of-13.
Miller led CAU with 14 points while nabbing four steals, grabbing four rebounds and dishing four assists.
Lakashia Hill was the only other Lady Panther in double figures, adding 12 points, along with eight rebounds, a steal and an assist.
Autum Morings finished with nine points and nine rebounds while
Naomi Holloway had seven points, three rebounds, a steal and an assist.
Jalisa Jones grabbed four rebounds along with three points.
Jordan Brewster led AUM with 17 points, including five 3-pointers.
The Lady Panthers return to the court on Thursday, Nov. 14 when they open the home portion of the season by hosting Saint Leo University at 6 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
