Clark Atlanta Falls to Division I Vanderbilt 95-55 in Exhibition

Clark Atlanta had three players in double-figures, but fell 95-55 to Vanderbilt of the Southeastern Conference in an exhibition Friday in Nashville, Tenn.

The Panthers were outscored 50-18 in the paint and only have five fast-break points against the Commodores.

But Clark Atlanta matched Vanderbilt over the game's first five minutes, tying the game at 8-8 after Shannon Smith's jumper.   Vandy stepped up and went on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to take a double-digit lead at 22-10.

The momentum then swung in CAU's direction as the Traylen Warren's basket capped a 13-8 Panther swing that pulled them to within seven at 30-23 with 4:10 left in the first half.
Vanderbilt regained control with a 15-3 run to finish the half up 45-26,

CAU struggled to score during the first few minutes of the second half, falling behind by 29 after being outscored 13-3.   Vanderbilt seized control the rest of the way, leading by as many as 46 points to take the win.

In his first game in a Clark Atlanta uniform, Tyler Singleton hit 5-of-7 shots, including hitting all three of his 3-pointers, to led CAU with 13 points.  Justin Longstreet, who also was making his CAU debut, had 12 points, while fellow newcomer Elijah Stewart had ten points. Romaine Thomas had a tough shooting night, going 1-of-10 from the field, but pulled down ten rebounds.  Maximo Guillermo added eight boards as CAU nearly matched Vandy in rebounds, 37-34.

Vanderbilt was led by Saben Lee's 19 points, while Aaron Nesmith had 17.  Scotty Pippen Jr., son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, added 15.

Clark Atlanta opens their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 9 when they host Barry University at L.S. Epps Gymnasium at 2 p.m.
