Jalen Mitchell's layup with four seconds remaining lifted Clark Atlanta to a 74-72 win on the road at Lane College Saturday.
It's the fifth win in the last six games for Clark Atlanta (6-7, 3-3 SIAC). The first of those five wins came against Lane (8-5, 5-2 SIAC) in overtime last month.
The Panthers jumped out early, leading Lane 12-9 after
Romaine Thomas' 3-pointer early in the first half. But Lane battled back, grabbing a 16-14 lead on Terrace Holt's jumper with 13:27 left before the half. The Dragons extended that lead to 37-24 five minutes later.
After being down by eight at halftime, CAU went on a 13-4 run to start the second half and taking the lead on two
Craig Hall free throws, making it 43-42 with 16:50 remaining. CAU pushed that lead out to as many as seven, but Lane chipped away at the deficit and tied it at 63-63 with 4:41 left.
The game remained close the rest of the way. CAU was up one with a minute remaining as
Austin Donaldson hit a jumper to make it 70-69. The Panthers defense held Lane without a basket for the next 50 seconds, with Henry adding two free throws with nine seconds left to put the Panthers up 72-69.
Then Holt followed with a 3-pointer that tied the game with seven seconds left. After a timeout, Mitchell then hit the game-winner with four seconds left on the clock, sealing the win for Clark Atlanta.
Henry led three Panthers in double figures with 24 points, two rebounds and an assist, while Thomas finished with 17 points, ten rebounds and assist. Mitchell had 14 points, four rebounds and an assist, and
Austin Donaldson added nine points, two assists and a rebound.
