Shelvick Henry had 23 points as Clark Atlanta seized control early and cruised to an 84-77 victory on the road at LeMoyne-Owen College Monday.
The win for Clark Atlanta (7-7, 4-3 SIAC) was the Panthers' third win in a row, and their sixth in the last seven games. LeMoyne-Owen (9-7, 4-4 SIAC) has lost three of their last four games.
LeMoyne-Owen weathered early CAU leads by briefly going ahead 12-10 with 13:22 left in the first half on two Jerry Hurt free throws. But the Panthers went on a big 18-3 run over the next five minutes to go up 30-13 on two
Austin Donaldson free throws.  LeMoyne-Owen, behind eight Tyrone Banks points, was able to cut the CAU lead to nine – 41-32 – at the break.
But the Panthers hit nearly 54 percent of their second half shots, along with six of their ten 3-pointers, as they regained and maintained their double-digit lead to take the win.
Henry, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's third-leading scorer, had 23 points – the fourth time in five games that he has scored at least 22 points.  He also had three rebounds, three assists and hit three 3-pointers.
Donaldson had 20 points, four rebounds and six assists, while
Jalen Mitchell added 18 points, three assists, two steals and a rebound. Â
Ian Roach had eight points, with two 3-pointers and
Romaine Thomas had six points and a team-high ten rebounds, his fourth straight ten rebound game.
Devin Booker led LeMoyne-Owen with 17 points.
The Panthers are back on the road Saturday at 3 p.m. when they had to Benedict College, and then at Paine College on Monday, Jan. 14. The Panthers return to L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 4 p.m. when they host Albany State University.
