Box Score Sierra Nelson had her 33
rd-consecutive, double-digit assist night for the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers volleyball team, but it wasn't enough as CAU fell 3-0 to Augusta University Tuesday.
Clark Atlanta (0-3) was only down 8-5 early in the first set after a block by
Ashley Elmore, but Augusta (10-2) ran off ten of the next 12 points to put the set out of reach. The second set went back and forth as CAU was down by only one at 13-12 after a
Taylor Prude kill. But Augusta scored the next three points and then finished the set by outscoring CAU 4-0 to win the set 25-16. After kills by
Shaya Shally-Jensen and
Taylor Prude, along with a block by
Kia Thomas, the Lady Panthers gamely fought back from an early deficit to pull within two, at 6-4 early in the final set. But a 12=1 Augusta run sealed the set and the victory for the Jaguars.
Nelson, a senior preseason All-SIAC pick, had 16 assists for CAU, along with a kill and two digs. Elmore finished with five kills and three digs while
Shaya Shally-Jensen had five kills and a dig for CAU.
Savannah Gonzales led Augusta with 11 kills and four digs.
The Lady Panthers are back on the court Friday for the Lander University Tri-Match in Greenwood, S.C. Friday. CAU takes on UNC Pembroke at 3:30 p.m. and homestanding Lander at 6 p.m.
