Jacey Gray had three hits and scored twice, while
Tatianna Kelly and
Lakimia Terrell each drove in two runs, but the Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers fell to Kentucky State 8-7 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Championships in Albany, Ga., Thursday.
The Lady Panthers led 7-1 after five innings, but KSU, the top-seeded team from the SIAC West Division, got two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to tie the game at 7-7 heading into the seventh and final inning.
CAU failed to score in the top of the seventh. KSU's Wynter Webb reached base on an error in the bottom of the seventh. She moved to second on Alysha Sakamura's single and then scored the game-winning run when Jittaun Thompson doubled to right field.
Gray, a first team All-SIAC pick, was 3-for-4, scoring twice.
Sharnitra Woods went 2-for-4 with a double. Kelly also doubled and drove in two runs.
The Lady Panthers move to the loser's bracket, opening tournament play Friday when they play the East's second seeded team in Claflin at 10 a.m.
