First-Place Clark Atlanta Hosts Fort Valley State

The Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers will be looking for their eighth win in a row when they host Fort Valley State University today at 2 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers, 16-7 overall, started their current seven-game winning streak a little over a month ago on Jan. 15 when they defeated Fort Valley State 60-53 on the road. Clark Atlanta sits in first place in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 14-2 record, 5-1 in the division, ahead of second-place Albany State who is 4-3 in East Division play.

CAU, which is the SIAC's No. 6 scoring team (65 points per game) and third-best defensive scoring team (allowing 59.7 points per game), defeated Miles College 61-45 Wednesday night.  The Lady Panthers continue to be paced by Naomi Holloway, the conference's third-leading scorer, who pours in 15.6 points per game, and Marissa Mandeldove, the SIAC's eighth-best scorer at 13.7 points per game and the conference leader in assists with 6.1 per game.  CAU also has the SIAC's leading rebounder in Lauren Turner, the only conference player in double-digits per game rebounding average with ten each game.  Turner also averages 12 points per game.

Fort Valley State has had a tough season, as they are 4-21 overall and are 4-12 in conference play.  But after losing their first 16 games this season, FVSU has won four of their last nine games.   They are led by Alicia Franklin, their top scorer with 16.4 points per game.
