Mitchell Gets 16 But Clark Atlanta Falls to Shaw 79-57

Jamila Mitchell led Clark Atlanta with 16 points, but the Lady Panthers fell to Shaw 79-57 in the first game of the Shaw University Tournament in Raleigh, N.C. Friday.

Clark Atlanta (0-3) is back in action in the tournament on Saturday when they take on St. Augustine's at 2 p.m.  The game can be seen live at http://theciaasn.com/sau/.

Friday, Mitchell scored 16 points in 19 minutes of action for the Lady Panthers.  The freshman guard/forward from Atlanta, Ga., hit three 3-pointers and hit all five of her free throws, along with adding a rebound and an assist.

The Lady Panthers fell behind early, trailing 42-24 at halftime.  CAU tried to pull back in the game late, outscoring Shaw (1-2) 23-16 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as Shaw defeated CAU for the second year in a row in the out-of-conference series.

Reyana Miller and Mailah-Mawusi Mitchell both had seven points and four rebounds for the
Lady Panthers.  Miller also added two assists and connected on two 3-pointers. I'Nayah Moore had five points and a team-leading nine rebounds, while Zakiya Holt and Reagan Jackson each added five points.  LaJoyous Boose had six points and three rebounds, while Jalisa Jones finished with six rebounds, three assists and three points.

Shaw was led by KlinTisha Martin's 25 points and 12 rebounds.

After Saturday's game, the Lady Panthers open the home portion of their season when they host Lee University on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
