Box Score Naomi Holloway scored 18 points while
Marissa Mandeldove had 17 and was just two assists away from a triple-double as Clark Atlanta University won their fourth straight, defeating Paine College 77-60 Monday in Augusta.
The Lady Panthers (13-7 overall) are now 11-2 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and leading the SIAC's East Division.
Paine, who is winless this season at 0-17, kept the game close in the first half, leading 31-28 after Keondra Archie's 3-pointer with 2:18 left before the break. But Holloway hit two free throws and Mandeldove connect on a basket and a free throw over the last two minutes to give CAU a 33-31 lead at halftime.
That lead grew to as many as 16 in the third quarter after
Reyana Miller hit two free throws with midway through the quarter gave Clark Atlanta a 46-33 lead.
A 19-1 Paine run closed the lead to five early in the fourth quarter after Arche's free throw made it 52-47. But the Lady Panthers put the game away, outscoring Paine 25-13 over the final nine minutes to get the win.
Holloway led CAU with 18 points and had five rebounds and two assists. Mandeldove finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and a blocked shot.
Lauren Turner had a double-double, finishing with 13 points and ten rebounds, along with three assists, a block and three steals. Miller had 12 points and two assists.
Asia Timmons led Paine with 16 points, while Archie had 15 points and ten rebounds.
The Lady Panthers held Paine to just seven second half baskets and only allowed the Lady Lions to hit 28 percent of their shots the entire game. CAU out-rebounded Paine 48-38 and forced 15 turnovers.
The Lady Panthers have the second game of their three-game road trip on Saturday, Feb. 3 when they visit Benedict at 2 p.m. They then head to Claflin on Monday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. Their next home game is on Wednesday, Feb. 14 when CAU hosts Miles at 6 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
