The first-place Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers hosts Benedict College in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at 2 p.m. in L.S. Epps Gymnasium today.
The Lady Panthers, 10-7 overall, are locked in a first-place tie with Claflin – a team they play on Monday night – with an 8-2 record in the SIAC. But Benedict is fighting to stay in the East Division race as they are just three games behind with a 5-5 record. The yare 5-13 overall.
The Lady Tigers have won two of their last three games, including a 13-point win Paine College on Monday, Jan. 15. While they aren't one of the highest scoring teams in the conference, Benedict leads the SIAC in rebounding. Ay'Anna Bey leads them in scoring and rebounding with 13.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
But Clark Atlanta is among the conference's top four teams in both scoring offense and scoring defense, and has the SIAC's leading rebounder in senior
Lauren Turner. Turner, the SIAC's only player averaging in double figures in rebounding with ten boards per game, also averages 13.4 points per game and is the only SIAC player averaging in double figures in both categories.
Freshman
Naomi Holloway is the SIAC's fifth-best scorer and leads CAU with 16.1 points per game. The team also sports the SIAC's leader in assists and steals (senior
Marissa Mandeldove), and the league's third-best shot blocker in
Courtney Hall.
