ATLANTA, Ga. - Clark Atlanta baseball ended the 2017 season with 13 victories to best the prior season-best from last season. The Panthers season came to an end over the weekend at Spring Hill College with the Panthers getting swept by the Badgers in the three-game series.

HOW IT HAPPENED (FRIDAY - L | 8-3)
Clark Atlanta was held to two hits over nine innings in the series-opening loss. CAU picked up one run in the top of the third after trailing 3-0 on a single to left files by
Randy Rudulph to score
Malcolm Seabrooks who reached on an error to start the inning.

Five more runs for Spring Hill put the home team ahead 8-1 heading to the ninth inning but Clark Atlanta was only able to score twice to end the game.
Kelechi Anyanwu doubled to left center on a full count to score
Antonio Watts before Anyanwu scored the final run of the game on a Badger error with
Jordan Johnson reaching base.

Jezreel Moore (3-6) pitched his final career game and took the loss. Moore tossed 5.0 innings allowing six hits while striking out three batters and allowing five runs - three earned - on the day.
Isaiah Blackwell and
Devin Franklin each pitched in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED (SATURDAY GAME 1 - L | 10-2)
Clark Atlanta spotted Spring Hill the early 4-0 lead before
Raphael Andrades scored the first Panther run in the top of the fourth inning. Andrades led off the inning with a double down the line into left field and moved to third base on a single to center from
Shahir Gates.

Spring Hill scored once in the home fourth and five more time in the home sixth inning taking the 10-1 lead to the top of the seventh inning. Johnson singled with one out and got to second base on a wild pitch. Rudulph singled to move Johnson to third base and a bases loaded walk to
Jason Howell scored the final run of the game.

Anthony Nettles (3-8) pitched 5.0 innings in the loss allowing just four hits and striking out three batters. Nettles surrendered eight runs - all earned - along with walking eight batters before giving way to
Darian Taylor and Gates from the bullpen.
HOW IT HAPPENED (SATURDAY GAME 2 - L | 7-6)
After allowing the home team to score once in the first inning, CAU took the lead with two runs in the second inning. Watts doubles to center scoring Seabrooks and Franklin. another Panther run in the fourth had CAU leading 3-1 after
Joseph Holmes II led off the inning with a single and later crossed the plate on the RBI-single from Anyanwu.

After the Badgers took the 5-3 lead the Panthers scored three times in the visitors sixth. Anyanwu added a pair of RBI with a single to right field to score Holmes and Johnson before Howell added the RBI with a bases-loaded walk allowing Watts to score. Spring Hill tied the game with one run in the sixth before winning the game with a walk-off single in the seventh.

Anyanwu (3-for-4) and Watts (2-for-3) each had multi-hit games.
Ryan Betts started on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings allowing five hits and five runs - four earned - before giving way to
Dillon Stafford (2-4) in relief. Stafford took the loss pitching 1.2 innings with just two hits allowed and striking out two batters.
SERIES NUMBERS:
CAU was held to a .217 team batting average.
Anyanwu collected a team-high four hits. Gates had three hits while Rudulph, Andrades, Watts and
Ayrton Gijsbertha each had a pair of hits.
INCREASED VICTORY TOTALS:
Clark Atlanta won 12 games in 2016 to set the benchmark for wins during a season surpassing the prior mark of nine wins set during the 1974 season and later matched in 2013 and 2014. The 2017 Panthers went 13-25 (7-13 SIAC) with a home mark of 11-10 from Bill Evans Field.
