Box Score Naomi Holloway scored 26 points and Lauren Turner added 20, but the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers lost another close game, this time 69-67 to the University of West Georgia in L.S. Epps Gymnasium Wednesday night.
It's the third loss in a row for the Lady Panthers who have lost the three games by a total of seven points.
CAU (5-5) led by as many as 12 points after Turner hit a 3-pointer late in the first quarter to give the Lady Panthers a 22-10 lead.  West Georgia (6-2) whittled that lead down to single-digits heading into halftime.  Turner hit 6-of-9 of her shots in the first half, along two 3-pointers.
The third quarter saw the Lady Panthers get the lead back up to as many as 12 points again, after Holloway's jumper made it 49-37 with 4:19 left in the third quarter.
But West Georgia clawed their way back, tying the game at 65-65 with 2:41 remaining as they outscored CAU 18-9 up to that point in the fourth quarter. The two teams traded baskets and were tied 67-67 with 36 seconds left.  But UWG's De'Ashia Jones rebounded a teammate's missed show with 12 seconds left and got the ball to Kayla Carter, who hit the game-winning shot with three seconds left.
It's the second time in two games in which the Lady Panthers led by double-digits, only to lose a game in the final seconds.
"I don't know what to attribute it to, other than the fact that West Georgia wanted it more than us," said CAU head coach
Yolanda Moore.  "It seems like other teams want it more than we do.  I think part of it has to do with coaching, but a lot of it is heart.  We can implement whatever plays, whatever game plan we have.  But they are the ones who have to go out and execute it.
"Again, it's just not continuing to pay attention to the details – blocking out, valuing the basketball, just doing the things that got us the lead," Moore said.
Holloway finished with 26 points, two rebounds, an assist and three steals.  Turner had 20 points, 16 rebounds, one block and three steals.
West Georgia was led by Carter's 18 points, with Jones adding 15.
The Lady Panthers head back into Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play – where they are undefeated at 3-0 – Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Central State University in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
"I think Central State is much better than the last two teams that we played," Moore said. "Again, it's going to come down to us executing offensively and defensively and having somebody to step up and just make some plays, and making better decisions in crunch time. And then understanding that when you get a lead, you can't let up."
