Panthers Fall to Kentucky State, 84-80, Despite Double-Double from Rattray

ATLANTA, Ga. - Clark Atlanta women's basketball rallied to pull the game even, and had the lead late in the fourth quarter before the visiting Thorobrettes of Kentucky State pulled away for the 84-80 road win. In the effort, Naquaisha Rattray posted her first double-double of the season while Marissa Mandeldove was close was close to the triple-double.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter | Marissa Mandeldove opened the CAU scoring with back-to-back baskets for the early 4-2 home advantage. Kentucky State tied the game before Nicole Graham was good on a 3-pointer off the Mandeldove assist with 7:30 left in the quarter. CAU used a trio of 4-0 mini spurts during a 16-8 run moved the Panther advantage to seven points, 21-14. Kentucky State closed the quarter on a 7-2 run with the Panthers leading 25-23.
 
Second Quarter | An early 3-pointer from Kentucky State put the visiting team ahead, 26-25. Kentucky State pulled ahead by six points, 36-30, via a 10-2 run with Lauren Turner adding the jumper for CAU during the run off the Mandeldove assist. Clark Atlanta tied the game, 40-40, with 2:33 left until halftime as Kiyanna Johnson was good on a 3-pointer before Turner added two made FT attempts. The half concluded with KSU leading 47-42.
 
Third Quarter | Kentucky State opened the second half with a 3-pointer on the first possession before Naquaisa Rattray was good on the layup for the first points for Clark Atlanta in the second half. A 12-4 run by Kentucky State put the Thorobrettes ahead 62-48 with 6:40 to play in the third quarter. Clark Atlanta closed the quarter on a 12-2 run with four points from Turner.
 
Fourth Quarter | Clark Atlanta was able to pull the game even, 66-66, with Mandeldove completing the three-point play from the Ft line. Mandeldove game the Panthers the lead back, 70-69, after stealing the ball and driving the length of the court for the fast-break layup.  With Clark Atlanta holding a two-point advantage, 77-75, with 3:26 left in the game Kentucky State ended the game on a 9-3 run for the 84-80 road win.

TEAM NUMBERS:
Clark Atlanta shot 26-for-70 (37.1 percent) from the floor and 24-for-30 (80 percent) from the FT line.  The Panthers were 4-for-16 from 3-point range.
 
Clark Atlanta led in second chance scoring, 13-4, points in the paint, 26-16, fast break scoring, 12-4, and points off turnovers, 23-17. The Panthers forced the Thorobrettes into 20 turnovers.
 
Clark Atlanta posted season-highs in FT percentage (.800) and assists in a game (16).

INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS:
Rattray paced the Panthers with her first double-double of the season with 18 points and the game-high 13 rebounds.
 
Turner set a new career-high with 24 points on 9-for-17 from the floor including 6-for-7 from the FT line.
 
Mandeldove nearly missed the triple-double as she ended the game with 21 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. She also had a game-high five steals.
