Panthers Held Scoreless Over Final 3:20 in Home Loss To Claflin; 73-60

ATLANTA, Ga. - Clark Atlanta women's basketball failed to score in the final 3:20 after closing to within three points in a home loss to Claflin; 73-60.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Nekia Sockwell scored the opening points for CAU with a jumper after the opening 1:30 had passed, back-to-back FT from Mykala Jones tied the game; 4-4.
 
Claflin took the lead for a moment before Clark Atlanta added a Jones jumper ahead of a Gia Banks 3-pointer for the first home lead, 9-6.
 
The second quarter saw CAU fight back to tie the game, 17-17, after Brandie Robertson made one FT attempt. Claflin retook the lead 31 seconds later for the remainder of the game.
 
CAU trailed by five points at halftime, 36-31, after Jones made a pair from the FT line at the end of the half.
 
In the fourth quarter CAU utilized a 14-4 run to draw within three points, 63-6, with 3:20 left in the game. Kiyanna Johnson opened the run with a 3-pointer and added another 3 during the run. Jones scored six during the run along with Robertson making a pair from the FT line.
 
Claflin ended the game with a 10-0 run.

THE NUMBERS:
CAU turned 11 Claflin turnovers into 19 points.
 
Clark Atlanta shot 19-for-56 (33.9 percent) from the floor, and shot 8-for-18 from 3-point range.  CAU added 14-for-17 from the FT line.
 
CAU trailed in bench scoring, 28-17, points in the paint, 26-10, fast break points, 10-4, and second chance scoring, 19-3.
 
Jones scored a game-high 25 points on 7-for-15 from the floor and made a trio of 3-pointers.
 
Johnson reached double-digits from the bench, scoring 10 points in 14 minutes. Johnson went 3-for-4 from 3-point range.
 
Siera Bubb hauled in a team-high seven rebounds, while Whitney Davis and Sockwell dished out a game-high four assists apiece.

UP NEXT:
Clark Atlanta is on the road next week at Tuskegee before returning home to Epps Gymnasium on last time for the senior class on Feb. 15 versus Paine at 6:00 p.m.
