Panthers Defeat Florida Tech to Split Opening Weekend Versus Sunshine State Schools

ROLLINS GAME

ATLANTA, GA. - Clark Atlanta University men's basketball opened the 2016-2017 season with a loss to Rollins College. The game marked the season opener for each team in the 2016-2017 season.

How it happened:
Clark Atlanta took the lead over Rollins College after a 4-4 tie at the beginning. Their lead continued through-out the entire first half with Anthony Williams, Lawrance Triplett and Damien Davis each scoring six points in the first half. At the end of the first half the Panthers end with a near double digit advantage at 36-27.

In the second half Clark Atlanta started the score board with a dunk from Shamiek Sheppard. Clark Atlanta continued their lead in the second half with an amazing 3-point shot from Derek Harper with 10:41 left to play. The Panthers lost their lead to Rollins when they tied 53-53 with 7:25 left to play. The Panthers continued to trail against Rollins College for the remaining seven minutes. Ultimately being defeated by Rollins College at 60-69.

The Numbers:
Sheppard, Sanders  and Harper were high scorers in the game.

Sanders went 4-for-11 and was 1-for-1 on FT attempts while Sheppard pitched in going 5-for-7 from the floor as the duo each scored 12 points.

Harper was 4-10 with 2 3-pointers and 3-for-6 on FT attempts to lead the Panthers with 13 points

Triplett boasted 13 rebounds and Davis and Triplett shared the team high of three assists.
 

FLORIDA TECH GAME

ATLANTA, GA. - Clark Atlanta University men's basketball second game of the 2016-2017 season was a win against Florida Tech. The game marked the first collegiate coaching victory for Darrell Walker.

How it happened:
Clark Atlanta trailed against Florida Tech the entire first half until 14.4 left to play when they tied 49-49. 
 
In the second half Clark Atlanta quickly took the lead. Clark Atlanta continued their lead in the second half with an amazing 3-point shot from Derek Harper with 10:45 left to play.
 
The Panthers continued to take their lead into the double digits with another 3-point shot from Harper bringing Clark Atlanta to 75 against Florida Tech's 62.
 
Florida Tech continued to trail against the Panthers, ultimately being defeated 87-78.
 
The Numbers:
Tim Sanders and Damien Davis were high scorers in the game. 
 
Sanders had 22 total points and was 6-for-6 on FT attempts.
 
Davis had 18 total points and was 6-for-9 on FT attempts. 
 
Lawrance Triplett boasted 17 rebounds and Anthony Williams had the team high of four assists.
