Women's Basketball Establishes Big Lead, Defeats Central State on Road; 80-58

WILBERFORCE, Ohio - Clark Atlanta women's basketball continued the impressive winning streak with a road win at Central State, 80-58.  The Panthers have now won four games in-a-row, with the last three coming against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sydni Davis scored the opening basket of the game 1:08 into the first quarter. 
 
With the game tied, 14-14, with 3:40 remaining Clark Atlanta closed the opening quarter with a 12-5 run. Mykala Jones and Gia Banks scored on 3-pointers during the run.
 
With 3:16 remaining until halftime Brandie Robertson was fouled on a layup attempt. The basket was good along with the FT attempt for the three-point play putting the Panthers ahead 39-23.
 
Kiyanna Johnson scored four consecutive points, all at the FT line over 63 seconds.
 
Jones ended the first half scoring with a 3-pointer with 43 seconds remaining to move the halftime advantage for CAU to 46-24.
 
Clark Atlanta was outscored in the third quarter by Central State, 17-13, and went to the fourth quarter holding the 59-41 lead.
 
Nekia Sockwell scored the opening fourth quarter points on a jumper with a Jones assist to give the Panthers a 20-point lead, 61-41.
The lead hovered around 20 points for the remainder of the game, with the largest lead of the night coming on a Siera Bubb layup with 6:08 remaining to make the score 70-44.
 
After the Bubb layup, Central State went on a 9-0 run before Jones was good on a pair from the FT line.  The Lady Marauders responded with a 5-0 run.
 
Clark Atlanta ended the game scoring the final eight points.

THE NUMBERS:
Clark Atlanta shot 25-for-64 (39.1 percent) from the floor and went 8-for-10 from 3-point range. 
 
CAU was 22-for-25 (88 percent) from the FT line, compared to 8-for-12 from Central State.
 
Clark Atlanta played with the lead for 36:06 and led from the 3:50 point of the first quarter until the end of the game.
 
The Panthers converted 245 turnovers into 27 points.
 
CAU posted 15 steals in the game while only allowing six.  Clark Atlanta committed just 13 turnovers for the game.
 
Clark Atlanta held the advantage in second chance points, 17-3. The Panthers were outdone in bench points, 28-20, and points in the paint, 36-18.
 
Jones scored a game-high 21 points.  She made just four field goals, but three were from 3-point range.  Jones helped her scoring effort by going 10-for-10 from the FT line.  She added three steals and three assists on the night.
 
Davis scored a season-high 18 points on 6-for-13 from the floor (2-for-2 on 3-pointers) while going 4-for-7 from the FT line.  She had a team-high five assists while also recoding two steals.
 
Sockwell also scored a season-high with 14 points, her first double-digit scoring game of the season. 
 
Bubb added 12 rebounds and seven points.  She now has reached double-digit rebounds in five-consecutive games.  She also tallied a game-high in steals with six.
 
Robertson had six rebounds while Johnson (seven) and Banks (six) paced the scoring effort from the bench.
