Lady Panthers Finish Third; Bring Home Multiple Awards

Atlanta, Ga. --- The Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers tennis team may not have won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship Tournament this past weekend in Columbia, South Carolina, but that doesn't mean that they didn't come away empty-handed.

In addition to bringing home a third-place SIAC trophy for their work this season, the Lady Panthers brought home four end of season awards recently handed out by the SIAC. These awards include:

Tori Pradier – Women's Singles All-SIAC First Team

Vonnick Boyogueno - Women's Singles All-SIAC First Team

DiAndrea Galloway & Vonnick Boyogueno – Women's Doubles All-SIAC First Team

Khadija Elder & Vanessa Jean-Baptiste – Women's Doubles All-SIAC Second Team

The Lady Panthers finished the regular season with an 11-11 (9-4 SIAC) record, heading into the SIAC tournament as the fourth seed slated to take on top-seeded Stillman College. The ladies battled valiantly in the contest, going up early in their matches before ultimately falling to the favorites, 5-2.

The team would not quit however, as the next day they faced off with the number three seed Tuskegee Golden Tigers in the third-place game. CAU would win for the third time this season against their SIAC rivals, this time quickly as they won their first five matches to clinch the trophy.

The tennis team will look to regroup and make a serious run towards the SIAC championship next season. Vanessa Jean-Baptiste will be graduating in May, but the team expects to return the other five members and will look to fill the void left by the senior's departure.
