Atlanta, Ga. --- The Clark Atlanta University Panthers baseball team hit the road on Friday night, albeit a short trip down the road to Perkerson Park, to take on rival Morehouse College in the first of four baseball games between the two this weekend. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the results they were looking for didn't show up on this trip, dropping the game 13-3 in eight innings.
After five innings on Friday night, MC held a 4-0 lead over CAU, with the Panthers still holding hope of a comeback. However, a huge six-run bottom of the sixth for the home squad would open up a huge 10-run lead, one that was just too big for Clark Atlanta to overcome. The Panthers were able to put three-runs across the plate in the top of the eighth thanks to a few timely hits, and some Morehouse errors.
Derrick Lott pitched five innings for the Panthers in the loss, only giving up two earned-runs, and four runs in total. He struck out three and walked five in the game. Jalen Logan-Givens pitched seven strong innings for MC, striking out eight along the way.
The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opponents moved this game, which was originally scheduled for Sunday at 3 pm, to Friday due to the threat of inclement weather.
The Panthers (0-7) will continue the weekend series against the Maroon Tigers on Saturday in doubleheader action, with the first game scheduled to begin at 12 pm. The two teams will finish up the series on Sunday at 11 am.
