Buzzer Beater Downs CAU Once Again

Box Score Columbia, S.C. --- A buzzer-beating three-point shot by the Benedict Tigers gave them the victory over the Clark Atlanta University Panthers on Saturday, 68-65. The battle between the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foes was back-and-forth the whole game, with the feeling that whoever had the ball last would get the victory.

The Panthers (5-18, 4-12 SIAC) trailed by five at the break, but quickly erased that deficit over the first 46 seconds of the second half, thanks to a Najee Whitehead three-pointer and an Allan Dempster layup.

With 11 seconds remaining in the game, and the Panthers down three, Kenneth Green hit a huge three-pointer to tie the game. With just a few seconds left the Tigers called timeout and drew up a play, which ultimately led to Jordan Smith's game winning three-pointer at the buzzer.

With 18 points, Cornell Barnett led the charge for the Panthers, with Green adding 13 rebounds. Justin Peeples scored 15 for BC to aid in their victory.

The Panthers will return to action this Monday, February 16th, at 8 pm as they host Albany State University in the final home game of the season. The Clark Atlanta University Department of Athletics will be honoring all of the seniors on the basketball teams as they celebrate "Senior Night."
