Panthers Downed at Miles, 88-56

FAIRFIELD, Ala. - Clark Atlanta is still looking for the initial win of the season having lost the opener of Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Miles, 88-56.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Miles started the game 7-0 run and would lead for the rest of the game.
 
The first Clark Atlanta points were scored when Tim Sanders made a jump shot off the assist from James Arnold.
 
After trailing by seven points, 11-4, Sanders stole the ball and scored the fast break layup and followed that with jumper in the paint to pull within one point, 13-12 with 12:48 to play in the first half.
 
Miles would utilize a 32-12 advantage the rest of the way in the first half to lead at the intermission, 45-24.  CAU shot just 25 percent (3-for-36) in the opening half.  Miles connected on 18-of-40 (45 percent) in the first 20 minutes.
 
Clark Atlanta was outscored in the second half, 43-32, with Miles leading by as many as 33 points with just under five minutes remaining in the game.
 
David Basil provided the second half boost with 10 points off the bench.

THE NUMBERS:
Basil would score 12 in the game for a season-high while adding a team-high six rebounds;  three players each tallied a pair of assists.
 
Sanders scored a team-high 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting, Sanders and Basil were the only double-digit scoring Panthers in the game.
 
CAU turned 17 turnovers into 10 points.
 
The Panthers held the advantage in points from the bench, 24-12.
