Losing Streak Snapped With 66-63 Home Win Over Mobile

ATLANTA, Ga. - Clark Atlanta received a game-high 21 from Mykala Jones to snap a nine-game losing streak to defeat NAIA Mobile, 66-63.  The losing streak came after the season-opening win over Saint Leo.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Siera Bubb opened the scoring with a layup after grabbing an offensive rebound after 1:09 in the first quarter.
 
Mobile led the majority of the way in the first quarter, except for when Mykala Jones gave CAU a 9-8 lead on a FT with 4:29 to play.  The Lady Rams held a 16-11 advantage after the opening 10 minutes.
 
Sydni Davis and Brandie Robertson converted on back-to-back possessions in the second quarter to pull Clark Atlanta within one point, 16-15, with 6:37 left to play.
 
Naquaisha Rattray tied the game, 19-19, with 4:19 until halftime.
 
Clark Atlanta closed the opening half with a 10-6 run.  During the run, Jones scored six points - three free throws and a 3-pointer. 
 
The Panthers shot 40 percent from the floor in the first half, along with going 8-for-8 from the FT line.
 
CAU held the lead in the third quarter until Mobile connected on a 3-pointer to take the 32-31 advantage with 7:53.
 
The Panthers trailed by as much as five points but was able to take the lead, 46-45, as Gia Banks made a pair of FT attempts with 44 seconds remaining.  CAU entered the fourth quarter holding the one-point lead.
 
Rattray scored on a jumper to start the fourth quarter to give CAU a three-point advantage, 48-45.
 
The Lady Rams were able to take the lead and stretch to four points, 58-54, with 2:48 left in the game.
 
Banks cut the lead to one after connecting on a layup and FT for the three-point play; 58-57.
 
Jones went on a personal 7-2 run, with a pair of FT attempts and a 3-pointer and two more FT attempts, to push the Clark Atlanta lead to 64-60, with 27 seconds remaining. 
 
A 3-pointer from Mobile cut the CAU advantage to one point, 65-63.  Jones added one more FT, 66-63, and Davis was fouled while grabbing a defensive rebounds she scored the final point of the game at the FT line.
 
THE NUMBERS:
Clark Atlanta shot 36.8 percent for the game (21-for-57) while Mobile was able to convert 35.8 percent (24-for-67) from the floor.
 
The Panthers were 21-for-24 (87.5 percent) from the free throw line in the game.
 
CAU turned 13 Mobile turnovers into seven points.  The stats were balanced in second chance points, 10-10, fast break points, 8-8, and times taking the lead, 5-5.
 
Clark Atlanta held the 16-8 advantage on points scored in the paint.

Jones tied for the game-high with 21 points, including going 12-for-13 from the FT line.
 
Rattray and Banks each scored 12 points off the bench.  Rattray was 6-for-10 from the floor while Banks was 4-for-7 and also 4-for-4 from the FT line.
 
Bubb hauled in 11 rebounds for the game-high.  The game marks her fifth game with double-digit rebounds and her second consecutive. 
 
Whitney Collins and Robertson had six rebounds apiece.  Robertson also posted a team-best five assists.

Clark Atlanta is done for 2015, and will return to the court on Jan. 2, 2016 hosting Lane College at 1:0 p.m.  LeMoyne-Owen will visit on Jen. 4 at 1:00 p.m.
