ATLANTA, Ga. - Women's basketball at Clark Atlanta was defeated by visiting NAIA opponent Edward Waters, 81-72. The game marks the first of back-to-back home games versus teams from the Sunshine State with Florida A&M set to visit on Dec. 15

HOW IT HAPPENED:With 7:52 to play in the first quarter,
Mykala Jones added a fast break layup and made the FT attempt to give Clark Atlanta the 5-4 lead.
Sydni Davis and
Whitney Collins each made jumpers to make the CAU advantage five points, 9-4.
After an EW jumper,
Nekia Sockwell found
Siera Bubb on the break for the layup. Bubb was fouled on the play and was good with the FT giving the Panthers the 12-6 lead.
Naquaisha Rattray was good on both FT attempts before Bubb added a jumper on another Sockwell assist to lead 16-6. CAU would hold the lead after the opening quarter, 16-14.
Collins added an early layup in the second for the five point CAU lead, 20-15, with 8:12 to play before the half.
With the lead cut to one point,
Kiyanna Johnson was good on the jumper with 6:22 remaining, 22-19.
Edward Waters ran off a 9-0 run to take the lead and would enter the intermission up by three points, 34-31.
Jones was good from 3-point range to open the second half to tie the game, 34-34, and a Sockwell jumper gave CAU the lead, 36-34, with 9:11 left in the third quarter. That would be the final CAU lead of the game.
THE NUMBERS:Five players reached double-digits in points. Jones topped the CAU scorers with 15, she has led the team in every game played thus far.
Rattray scored 13 off the bench for a new season-high on 5-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the FT line. She also registered the team-high with seven rebounds.
Other double-digit scorers were Bubb (11), Collins (10), and Davis (10). Collins set a season-high in points going 5-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the line.
Jones and Davis each dished out six assists.
Clark Atlanta converted 17 Edward Waters turnovers into 20 points.
The Panthers held the advantage in points from the bench, 22-3, and second-chance points, 20-10.
Clark Atlanta went 11-for-11 from the FT line in the second half and ended the game 14-for-35.
UP NEXT:Florida A&M will visit on Dec. 15 with the game set for 6:oo p.m. CAU will have one other home contest on Dec. 29 versus Mobile to end the 2015 portion of the schedule.
