Volleyball Suffers Non-Conference Home Loss to Emmanuel, 3-0

ATLANTA, Ga. - Clark Atlanta Volleyball lost a non-conference home match to in-state opponent Emmanuel College, 3-0.  CAU is now 10-9 on the season with a 4-3 record from Epps Gymnasium.  The Panthers and Lady Lions played earlier this season in Franklin Springs, Ga., with the home team winning 3-0 to start the season sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | Emmanuel had the worst hitting percentage, .241, in any of the sets to start the match, but Clark Atlanta was unable to capitalize.  EC got out to the early lead and never trailed in the set before scoring the final seven points after CAU rallied to close the distance, 18-14.
 
SET 2 | CAU tallied the highest hitting percentage of the match, .182, in the second set.  Emmanuel was able to put Clark Atlanta in an early deficit, 10-3, before a CAU 6-1 run brought the set within two points, 11-9.  After trading back-and-forth points, the visiting Lady Lions stretched the lead thanks to a 5-1 run, 19-13, and closed the set by scoring five of the next six points.
 
SET 3 | CAU fell behind 9-0 to start the set and after scoring twice, Emmanuel scored six unanswered for a 16-2 advantage.  A rally, 6-1, brought the score to 20-10, prior to EC finishing off the match
 
THE NUMBERS:
Clark Atlanta was bested in kills, 38-18, aces, 11-2, and assists, 37-17.
 
Kiara Govan accounted for 16 digs.
 
Sierra Scoggins had seven kills and two blocks.
 
Alexis Williams tallied seven digs. 
 
UP NEXT:
Volleyball hits the road later this week for a match at Paine College on Oct. 29 before a pair of home games next week to close the 2015 home season.  Nov. 3 will see in-state SIAC rival Albany State visit while Volleyball Senior Day is set for Nov. 5 with a match against Paine College.
