Panthers Drop Two on the Road

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Augusta, Ga.---The Clark Atlanta University baseball team dropped two games of a three-game series on the road against SIAC East Division opponent Paine College 12-4 and 13-8 Saturday in Augusta.

Clark Atlanta (8-23, SIAC 6-11) did not get on the board until the fourth inning behind a one-run triple by junior Johnny Surry. Though the Panthers added three more runs in the sixth, it was not enough overcome Paine. Senior Kelvin Tanner scored two runs for Clark Atlanta. Tanner gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead with a two-run double in the top of the third for one of his two hits in game two. Paine captured the lead with six runs in the bottom of the third and never relinquished it. A three-run homer by Tanner, who finished with a game-high five RBIs, cut the deficit to 9-6, but that would be as close as CAU would come to the lead.

With the two losses, the Panthers remain in fifth place in the SIAC East Division behind Paine. Clark Atlanta will look to avenge these losses with a win in the final game of the series Sunday, at 1 p.m.

Next, CAU will HOST AUC rival Morehouse College in its season series finale at HOME Saturday, April 12, in a double-header beginning at 12 p.m., and Sunday, April 13, in a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m., for SENIOR DAY. All CAU HOME baseball games are played at Bill Evans Field located at 3636 College Street in College Park, Georgia.
