Panthers Clip Lane in Conference Double-Header

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 College Park, Ga.--The bats came alive as the Clark Atlanta University Panthers swept the Dragons of the Lane College 6-4 and 9-7 in conference action today at Bill Evans Field HOME of the CAU baseball team.

The Dragons held a slim 2-1 advantage at the end of one before Clark Atlanta's Omar Prieto-Torres' two-run double gave the Panthers a 3-2 lead at the end of the second inning. The Panthers would secure three more runs, one more than Lane, behind Kelvin Tanner, Johnny Surry and DJ Cain who all recored doubles to seal the win.

In game two, the Panthers (5-17) carried a 6-1 lead through four innings behing the play of senior Kelvin Tanner who hammered a two-run double in the first and finished the game with 3 RBIs. Lane stormed back with five runs in the fifth inning that knotted the game at six, but Clark Atlanta would answer with a three-run surge of its own in the bottom of the fifth for a three point advantage. Though the Dragons would strike again in the sixth with one more run it was not enough to close the gap.

The weekend series culminates Sunday, March 23, with a single nine-inning game beginning at 11 a.m., a new start time due to rain forecasted in the afternoon. All CAU HOME baseball games are played at Bill Evans Field located at 3636 College Street, College Park, Ga.
