Green Hits Game Winning Layup in Overtime

Box Score Milledgeville, Ga.---A monumental team effort capped by a game-winning layup by senior Kenneth Green lifted the Clark Atlanta University Panthers to a their first win of the season with an 84-83 overtime victory over Georgia College and State University on the road Saturday.

The Panthers (1-3) trailed much of the game including at the halftime 36-32 while Georgia College (2-2) led by as many as seven points in the first half. Clark Atlanta however mounted an eight to four run to knot the game at 56 with 9:12 remaining. The Bobcats regained the lead by five after a series of CAU turnovers. While chipping away at the lead, CAU captured its first lead of the game 68-67 at the 2:01 mark on a steal and lay-up by senior Johnell Young who finished with 12 points off the bench.

It was a game of free throw shooting down the stretch as Terrell Harris hit 1-of-2 for Georgia College to tie the game at 68 with one minute remaining. Two more free throws by the Bobcats with 11 seconds on the clock gave them a 70-68 advantage. CAU sophomore Derek Harper, who was perfect on his only two attempts, made both free throws to send the game into overtime.

Though the Panthers trailed by as many as four points in the overtime period, a second chance effort by Green whose put back on the offensive board as time expired proved to be fitting for the win.  Green finished with his first double-double on the season with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds including five on the offensive glass while Barnett topped the Panthers with 22 points on 7-of-15 from the field.

After dropping their first three games to open the season, the Panthers will look to expand their one game -winning streak on the road in the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 28-29, before by a HOME rematch with Georgia College Wednesday, December 3, at 7 p.m., in Epps Gymnasium.
