Atlanta, Ga.---Clark Atlanta University women's tennis team suffered a tough 5-3 semifinal loss in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) women's tennis championship tournament played Friday at Morehouse College.
The Lady Panthers (13-10) jumped to an early lead after winning two of three doubles matches at the No. 1 position by freshman Vonnick Boyogueno and junior Brionne Bachus (9-8 (7-3)) and from the No. 2 spot played by juniors Ivory Conley and Asia Boyd (8-2). In singles play, two three set thriller winners gave Benedict a 3-2 advantage at the No. 2 spot over sophomore Vanessa Jean-Baptist (4-6, 7-5 and 3-6) and Bachus (4-6, 7-5 and 4-6) at the No. 3 position. The Lady Tigers went on to win two more singles matches for the semifinal victory. Conley, who won the No. 6 position 7-5 and 6-4, picked up the third win for the Lady Panthers.
With the loss, CAU will face Fort Valley in a third place match Saturday, April 13th, at 9 a.m.
