Panthers Lose Hard Fought Battle at Home

Box Score Atlanta, Ga.---With a season-high 19 points, Kevin James led the Panthers in a 75-72 losing effort to Kentucky State University at Epps Gymnasium Monday.

With the game knotted at 39 after the half, the Thorobreds opened an eight-point lead, their largest of the game, at the 13:56 mark in the second period. But the Panthers quickly closed the gap and tied the game at 55 and then took a one-point lead on the next possession. As the lead changed four more times in the period, the final tie came at the 1:30 mark when Jerrel Joye hit 1-of-2 free throw attempts. An eight to five run to end the period sealed the win for Kentucky State.

Joye and James Arnold chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively for the Panthers while Johnnel Young dished seven assists and added in nine points. To lead the Thorobreds, Ulysses Thomas III topped Kentucky State with 16 points while Brandon Darrett recorded 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. The Panthers shot 42 percent from the field and 60 percent from the charity stripe.

Next, CAU (2-9, SIAC 1-2) will embark on a three-game road trip starting with Tuskegee (1/12), Stillman (1/14) and Miles (1/17) before returning home Jan. 19th, against Claflin University.
