CAU Gets First Win of the Season

Atlanta, Ga.---The Clark Atlanta University baseball team captured its first win of the season after a double-header split with AUC rival Morehouse College at home Sunday.

After dropping game one 12-11, the Panthers (1-11) topped the Maroon Tigers in
game two with an 18-16 victory. Manuel Gasper picked up his first win while Kelvin Tanner closed out the game with one inning of work. Third baseman Derrick Lott led CAU with four RBIs, two runs and 1 stolen base and catcher Joseph Furr added three RBIs and two runs.

After taking a 6-4 lead and holding Morehouse scoreless in the third, the Panthers added five insurance runs that gave them a seven-point advantage in the top of the fourth. But the Maroon Tigers answered with an impressive nine-run inning and took back a slim 13-11 lead.  The sixth inning, however, belonged to CAU as they put up six runs in the sixth and never relinquished the lead.

Clark Atlanta finished with 14 hits compared to Morehouse 12.

Despite four runs in the top of the seventh inning, it was not enough to overcome a five-point deficit down the stretch. Freshman Christopher recorded three RBIs and two runs along with two strikeouts on the mound.

Next, the Panthers will open conference play while hosting Albany State in a weekend series Saturday, March 10, at 5 p.m., and Sunday, March 11, at 1 p.m. All CAU HOME baseball games are played at Bill Evans Field in College Park.
