CAU Baseball Picks Up Second Win

Atlanta, Ga.---The Clark Atlanta University baseball team gets its second win on the season with a 21-11 victory over Lane College at home Thursday. 

After giving up seven runs in the top of the third including a grandslam homerun by Lane's Travis Elsby, the Panthers found themselves down 11-1. But CAU's bats came alive in the bottom of the third as the Panthers scored five runs to close the gap led by Manuel Gasper, Joseph Furr and Kelvin Tanner who all hit doubles, an RBI and scored a run in the inning. Thereafter, Clark Atlanta was solid on defense with no errors and held the Dragons scoreless in the last five innings. Offensively, CAU added 15 more insurance runs on its way to victory .

Tanner topped the Panthers with five RBIs and three runs scored while Gasper went for 5-of-6 from the plate and two RBIs. CAU pitcher Joseph Furr picked up his first win of the seaon on the mound while Christopher Levy recorded the save.

The Panthers (2-20, SIAC 0-6) will host a weekend series against non-divisional conference opponent LeMoyne-Owen beginning with a double-header Saturday, March 24, at 5 p.m., and one nine-inning game Sunday, March 25, at 1 p.m.
