TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (January 21, 2012) -- Looking to rebound after Thursday night's road loss to Tuskegee, the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University downed Stillman College 53-47 at the Birthright Gymnasium Saturday night.
In what was the second re-match of the SIAC championship from a year ago, both teams struggled to find their shooting touch as Stillman shot 36 percent (20-for-56) from the field while Clark-Atlanta shot 25 percent (16-for-63) for the game.
Despite only six field goals in the first period, the Panthers erased a seven-point deficit and claimed a 22-20 lead at the half.
The second period was a see-saw battle with four ties and six lead changes with CAU leading by as many as eight points. Willis Brownlee’s monster slam at the 8:02 mark gave the Panthers a three-point advantage that they would not relinquish down the stretch.
For Clark-Atlanta (6-9, 6-5 SIAC), Royce Hamilton led all players with 14 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Logan Shoffner and Brandon O'Brien each had seven points for the Panthers.
Torrean Walker and Jeffrey Wherry each had 11 points and four rebounds for Stillman. Ladarius Rhone tallied eight points and nine rebounds while Kenyour Williams added seven points.
Next, the Panthers will face AUC rival Morehouse College Thursday, Jan. 26, for a 7:30 p.m., showdown at Forbes Arena.
