Panthers Split Doubleheader with Lemoyne-Owen

Atlanta, GA-The Clark Atlanta University Panthers baseball team picks up their third win of the season after splitting a conference doubleheader with LeMoyne Owne Friday at Perkerson Park in Atlanta.

In game one, the Panthers 16-8 victory was led by freshman Kelvin Tanner’s whose stellar hitting season continued with a grand-slam in the second-inning that gave the Panthers a 4-3 advantage. Clark Atlanta racked up seven runs total in that inning and never relinquished the lead. Tanner finished with five RBIs on 2-of-5 from the plate while fellow freshman Jordan Sapius knocked in two runs and Ron Anderson went 3-for-4. CAU pitcher Aaron Benjamin threw a complete game for his first win of the season.

LeMoyne Owen’s centerfielder hit a two-run shot over left field in the first inning of game one to give the Magicians an early 2-0 lead.  He was also instrumental in the Magicians 29-17 game two victory with seven RBIs on 3-of-5 at the plate. The Magicians orchestrated a nine-run inning in the sixth that put the game out of reach for the Panthers.

Clark Atlanta will host Tuskegee Wednesday in a 1 p.m., nine-inning game before hosting a conference series with Miles College April 2-3.
