Roman Buchanan is in his first year as a full-time coach, serving as linebackers coach for the Panthers.
Buchanan was a four-year starter at safety and linebacker for the University of South Alabama frorm 2013-16. During his time at USA, Buchanan earned All-Conference honors at two different positions and ended his career at USA as the school's fourth all-time leading tackler. He was a key contributor to the University's first two bowl appearances; was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week in the school's upset win over Southeastern Conference opponent Mississippi State. He was also a vital cog in USA's first-ever win over a ranked opponent when the Jaguars defeated No. 19 San Diego State. Buchanan was USA's first-ever two-year team captain, as voted on by his teammates. He was an All-Conference Academic honoree, as well as a finalist for USA's Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2016.
Buchanan,, a native of Daleville, Ala., participated in training camp with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons in 2017 as an undrafted free agent.
