Panther Fall to Allen in First Conference Road Matchup

CAU falls to 2-2 overall on the season

ATLANTA, Ga. – True freshman Xzavier Jackson threw for an efficient 244 yards and four touchdowns in his collegiate debut, but the Panthers fell short to the Allen University Yellow Jackets 49-38 on the road in their first conference loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Allen used a 42-yard rushing touchdown to get on the board first and mount a 7-0 lead at the 12:24 mark in the first quarter.
  • Zy McDonald punched in the equalizer with a one-yard scamper to even the score at seven apiece at the end of the first frame.
  • The Panthers took their first lead of the day with a 39-yard field goal from true freshman Carlos Lopez with 4:13 left to play in the first.
  • Allen returned fire with a four-yard rushing touchdown to jump back in front 14-10 with just over 12 minutes left to play in the first half.
  • The Yellow Jackets mounted a 21-10 lead just two minutes later on an 87-yard touchdown pass to put them in front by 11 points.
  • True Freshman QB Xzavier Jackson stepped in to throw his first career touchdown pass on a 17-yard dart to David Martin to bring the Panthers within four points at the five-minute mark in the second, bringing CAU back within striking distance at 21-17.
  • Allen responded with another touchdown pass before the end of the first half to hold a commanding 28-17 lead over Clark Atlanta headed into the intermission.
  • Xzavier Jackson found Armone Harris on a three-yard strike to cut the deficit to 28-24 at the top of the third quarter.
  • The very next drive, Jackson found Harris again from eight yards out, giving Clark Atlanta their first lead of the day at 31-28 with 4:09 to play in the third quarter.
  • AU answered with a touchdown to regain the lead at 35-31 headed into the final play of regulation.
  • Jackson found Armone Harris for their third touchdown connection of the day, but the Yellow Jackets tacked on two more fourth-quarter touchdowns to take down the Panthers 49-38.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • Xzavier Jackson threw for a blazing four touchdowns and 244 yards on 15-of-23 completions in his college football debut. 
  • Jackson was able to spread the ball around efficiently, finding seven different receivers led by David Martin in yards with 96 on four catches for a touchdown followed by Armons Harris with a game-high seven receptions and 78 yards for three touchdowns.
  • Cameron Williams led the defensive charge with a career-high 13 tackles (12 assisted, one solo).
  • Despite the loss, Clark Atlanta charted their season-high in total offense with 409 yards.
